Advocating healthy vision month, we want to educate folks on the different options they have for treating Glaucoma.  If it is in the early stages, eye drops is one of the more common treatments for the disease. However, if the glaucoma has progressed, then the doctor may prescribe pills in addition to the eye drops for more potent  treatment.

Some might ask, why not opt for surgical procedures right away?  All surgery have their inherent risks, not matter how major or minor the procedure is.  If the medication is not effective, then different surgeries options may be suggested for the glaucoma.  Typically, laser surgery has become the option when medication is ineffective and the patient does not require traditional surgery such as the trabeculectomy.  With medical advances, there are also newer and alternative ways of treating glaucoma that are less invasive and lessen risk of infection, but time will tell if these procedures will be as reliable as the established ones.
